These are my flowers and I can’t believe I’ve grown them!

For years I have tried growing gerbera daisies.  I love how simple yet dramatic the blooms are.  As anyone who has ever tried to grow these flowers already knows, it is incredibly difficult.  You’re lucky of you get one or two blooms at the most.  Can you belive this.  There are seven blooms here!  Yes, count them SEVEN!

At the beginning of summer I purchased two of these plants at the local hardware store, replanted them and pretty much just left them alone.  I did fertilize them twice during the summer and that’s it.  Then in August they just exploded and started to bloom profusely.  I don’t know what it was that caused this, but I’m lovin it.  Oh, and look at this.

This is the other plant and it has a double headed bloom.  One stem, two blooms!  I don’t know what’s in the water here but the gerberas are loving it.  Both these plants have SEVEN blooms.  Yes, I know.  I’m still in disbelief and I just had to share.  Enjoy your holiday weekend and be safe :)

I know….I know…… I don’t post anything for weeks than 2 postings in 2 days :)  Here’s another painting just listed on Ebay.  I’m enjoying working on these wooden box frames using Gritty Jane’s collaged technique.  Love it!  Check it out and don’t forget to place your bid :)

Okay………. I have to admit I’m having a hard time keeping up with the blog this summer.  My apologies :)  The days are zipping by and apparently I’m not zipping fast enough to keep up.

The bad news is……………I lost my studio.  My son has over taken my studio which was originally designed to be his bedroom when he became a teenager.  So, the time has come, he’s now a teenager and he has moved in.  The transition came a little more quickly than I anticipated so ALL my art supplies are now nestled in the closet of his now old bedroom until I decide which space my studio will occupy next.

But the good news is…………… I have been painting a little despite my supplies being scattered among many many boxes.  These two are currently up for auction on EBAY and I have a few more to list this week… so check back :)

And finally……..the Great News is……..drum roll please………………….I passed my boards!!     Whoo Hoo!!   What an incredibly HUGE relief.  I’ve been lucky enough to be working contract this summer and beginning a new job in the fall.  Thank You to all my friends and collectors for your support and best wishes!  It made all the difference and you are all the BEST!

Summer Days

Girl Power!

Here are my girls enjoying the lazy days of summer!  I wish I could say the same………..up until a couple days ago I’ve been studying intensely in preparation of my state boards for my physical therapy license.   I took the exam on Friday and it’s been a HUGE relief since.  Now I’m just hoping that I passed.  It will take a week or so to get the results but it feels good to get the monkey off my back…………..or maybe not…………..depending on the results  :)

Anyway, due to my studies I have not painted in a LONG TIME and I’m itching to get back to my paint brushes.  I’ve been sketching and preparing some wooden frames.  In an odd way the time away from the paints has given me some renewed inspiration and enthusiasm.  I’ve taken some online tutorials that have also given me new ideas.  Thanks to Gritty Jane’s Textured Surfaces, I’m anxious to try some new textured backgrounds.  You can find her tutorial here. She has such an easy way of teaching that puts the beginner at ease.

Okay….I’m now going to go join the girls on the deck with a cup of coffee and enjoy this warm lazy summer morning and do a little sketching.  This is the girl power in our household.  This is also my way of sneaking in the majority girl votes against my husband and son :)

Ooops, I should edit to add the girls names!  Dakota is our beloved dog.  We rescued her from the pound and she is the bestest dog and so well behaved.  Just a little needy as the husband would say :)  And our feline is named Oliver.  Yes, we know that it’s typically a boy’s name but our son named her when he was 3 and his favorite movie at the time was Oliver and Company, hence the name!  But ironically, she does think she’s a boy :)

I should also add that I know I haven’t listed anything on Ebay in a LONG TIME.  But I should have a couple paintings up within the next week or so…so please check back!
